Last Week, President Trump submitted his administration's budget requests to Congress. Congress' greatest power is to authorize spending, and, in another example of checks and balances will have the final say.
Congressman Joyce explained to 1st period classes on the Monday before Mock Congress that Congress had in recent years not been as active as it constitutionally should have been in making spending decisions. He suggested that this go round, the various appropriations committees in Congress would be far more involved in final spending decisions.
So, this is the start of a process, but consistent with promises to reign in government deficit spending, and to start paying down our national debt. President Trumps include large cuts in discretionary spending.
